I just read an NYTimes article titled “Why are there Still So Few Women in Science?”. I thought that I had an idea about gender bias in academia but I was very wrong. This article definitely made an impact on me and I highly recommend reading the entire article.

After hearing a lot about Category Theory from Tushant, I wanted to know more about it and started reading Category Theory - A Gentle Introduction by Peter Smith. It feels great till where I’ve read.

I’ve recently started appreciating Indian Classical music. Many thanks to Tushant for introducing me to this wonderful art form. I recently had the oppurtunity to attend a sarod recital by Pandit Abhishek Lahiri accompanied by Soumen Nandy on the tabla. The event was organised by SPIC MACAY, IITK.

I’m reading a book on Computer Networks right now for a course and I feel awesome getting to know about tonnes of stuff which I’ve been using throughout my life 😄

While I was reading about the Translation operator today, I stumbled upon the wiki for Emmy Noether - famous for “Noether’s theorem” which tells us that conservation laws follow from the symmetry properties of nature. It was interesting to note that she had worked at a German institute for seven years without pay because at that time(~1910), women were largely excluded from academic positions. This was comforting to me because I was feeling sad about the fact that I only started learning CS after I started my undergrad.

I was in a dilemma today whether I should study for the Machine Learning course or whether I should study for the Coherence & Quantum Entanglement course in the next three hours. I was totally unable to choose between them and so a lot of my brain’s computational power was being sucked up by this decision task. I finally decided to go with Octave’s random number generator. Just used unidrnd(2) 😄

Yes, I know, my last post said that I would be shifting my blog from wordpress to a Jekyll Hugo based blog hosted with Github pages. But I’m procrastinating. Anyway, putting that aside, let’s get to the meat of the post. Check out the Ugly duckling theorem. It’s pretty dope. I encountered it in the introductory lecture slides for the course on Machine Learning I’m doing right now(yikes! ML ooh).

Hey folks, I thought about this a lot and finally have decided to shift my blog to Jekyll based Github pages due to a couple of reasons: It’s completely free(until a limit of 1GB is reached). Yeah, wordpress is free but it serves ads and as everybody knows, ads suck. I bought a domain name for myself - aravindreddy.org and it seems like this is the best time for me to make a switch.

This is epic stuff!! You should surely check it out.
